The University of Sunderland's Business School were looking to relocate and revitalise an existing student learning hub. The key aim was to provide a variety of learning spaces but also to use existing furniture where possible. The space also had to accommodate the reception area for the business school and the student learning support team. It was important that the staff had a separate space to the students but that they were accessible.

The existing building has exposed concrete soffits and columns so it was important to develop a scheme which worked with the existing material palette and the soft finishes of the existing furniture. Using exposed birch plywood for bespoke furniture compliment the raw concrete.

Along with new lighting and floor finishes, the whole space is a transformation from the existing. Student feedback has been very positive and the space has become an true hub for the Reg Vardy building.
