Pique, Gosforth

Pique, a new independent South American café and restaurant in Gosforth has taken residence in Gosforth Central (formerly Gosforth Shopping Centre). Design North were enlisted by the owners to design a vibrant and exotic interior for the restaurant. Dark timber features paired with bold patterns, warm coloured textiles and luscious plants create a rich and inviting interior, while a custom designed plaster wall dappled in gold, bares the brand name and brings an almost Aztec aesthetic. Architects-Group, partnered with Design North, carried out the re-design of the external envelope of the building, working in tandem with the interiors team.

Pique’s menu is South American themed with traditional ceviche and a selection of other delicacies on offer. It will be open for brunch until late evening, contributing to a more lively streetscape along Gosforth High Street and a chic, sophisticated restaurant offering to Gosforth Central.

The café comes as part of a wider redevelopment scheme, overhauling the shopping centre and breathing new life into the area.  The renovation and rebranding has taken place over the past 18 months and has so far seen a redesign of the internal spaces, new colour schemes and graphics throughout the shopping centre and new, independent retailers and restaurants (such as Pique) taking up residence.

Pique will bring a much needed ‘café culture’ to the area, with south facing outdoor seating adjacent to Gosforth Park, and will help to fuel the regeneration of the shopping centre and beyond.
