Little Adventurers Day Nursery, Tyne + Wear

Client: Little Adventurers Day Nursery
Location: Ryton, Tyne + Wear
Role: Interior Design

Little Adventurers Day Nursery is a community-based early years nursery located in Ryton, Tyne & Wear.

Design North were enlisted to redesign their interior spaces, aligning with their vision of “laying foundations for lifelong learning,” and creating an inviting and creative space to supplement the children’s growth and development. The nursery places great importance on the ‘Curiosity Approach’, an educational model designed to bring awe and wonder into childhood, through contact with natural, real life materials and objects, encouraging play and exploration in all environments. This approach has been reflected and enhanced through the new interior space, using natural materials and clever storage solutions to allow children access to all the toys and objects to assist with their learning and development.

Proximity to and exploration of the natural world is also a key objective of the nursery, with a private garden as well as surrounding woodland, promoting outdoor learning. The natural world has been mirrored in the interior, with wood and natural materials used throughout, for a warm, tactile and environmentally conscious learning space.

Design North have proven experience in designing educational environments, from university buildings to early years learning, consistently able to deliver client specific requirements, providing the optimum learning environment for all end users. Little Adventurers Nursery will be the first step in many children’s educational journeys and Design North are proud to have contributed to this important milestone.
