Celebrating 5 years since completion, The Catalyst held a celebratory event to highlight and reflect on its success. Design North were responsible for the outstanding interior design for the project, and as such, their Director Scott Stewart attended the event.
Designed to be a centre for innovation within the Helix Development in Newcastle City Centre, the project was extremely ambitious. Creating spaces for research, innovation, collaboration and commercial enterprise, whilst simultaneously being inviting, sustainable and dementia friendly was a challenging brief. Design North worked alongside the project Architects to fulfil and exceed the expectations of the original design brief.
The project was awarded ‘Outstanding’ BREEAM and was the first commercial building in the North East to achieve this classification. As the Centre for Data and Ageing, the design of the building revolved around accessibility with all aspects of the spaces being Dementia friendly. Since opening five years ago, the Catalyst has been a hub for innovation, maintaining 95% occupancy levels and delivering nearly 5,000 events.
Design North are thrilled to have been involved in industry-leading projects such as the Catalyst, which contribute to the development of Newcastle City Centre and important fields of research for the wider community.
