Design North have been transforming the former Gosforth Shopping Centre into the contemporary and stylish new ‘Gosforth Central’. The renovation and rebranding has taken place over the past 18 months and has so far seen a redesign of the internal spaces, new colour schemes and graphics throughout the shopping centre and new, independent retailers and restaurants taking up residence.
Design North have helped to shape the vision for a fresh, modern shopping centre, bringing innovative design solutions and bold ideas to overhaul and reinvent this pivotal retail hub in Gosforth. As part of the transformation, the local coffee shop Pure Knead and vintage homeware retailer DE:CO, are now located within Gosforth Central, helping to reinstate the balance between independent and mainstream businesses.
Another eagerly awaited arrival was that of the new independent South American restaurant, Pique. Design North were enlisted by the owners to design a vibrant and exotic interior for the restaurant. Dark timber features paired with bold patterns, warm coloured textiles and luscious plants create a rich and inviting interior, while a custom designed plaster wall dappled in gold, bares the brand name and brings an almost Aztec aesthetic. Architects-Group, partnered with Design North, carried out the re-design of the external envelope of the building, working in tandem with the interiors team.
Pique will bring a much needed ‘café culture’ to the area, with south facing outdoor seating adjacent to Gosforth Park, and will help to fuel the regeneration of the shopping centre and beyond.
