A former hotel in Whitley Bay is to be converted into a luxury 83 bedroom care home. Commissioned by the Prestwick Care Group, Design North have been responsible for designing the interiors of the sea front building.
Built in 1907 as The Waverly Hotel, the building occupies a prominent position on the Whitley Bay sea front and has been a distinguishing landmark in the area for over a century. The hotel was extended and renamed to become The Rex Hotel in 1922, remaining as such ever since. The £12m development will see the hotel transformed, with internal and external remodelling, redesign and refurbishment, creating living spaces, treatment, leisure and support facilities. With work well underway to create this luxury Care Home, Design North have been at the forefront of the interior scheme, working to create a timeless and sophisticated series of spaces. With a wide range of experience in healthcare and specialist Dementia care design, Design North have been able to hone their skills in this sector further with the development of this project. Care and attention has been given to the historic features of the building, retained and enhanced wherever possible, accompanied by a neutral and warming colour palette.
Now renamed as Bay View House, the Care Home is due to open during summer 2025. Design North look forward to seeing this historic gem restored to its former glory, bringing much needed high quality living and care facilities to Whitley Bay.
