Our Role

Consultant and Designer

The University of Sunderland has a history of encouraging innovative ways to provide learning spaces. The Murray Library had undergone extensive renovation, incorporating new social, collaborative and independent learning spaces. The Careers Library had to reflect this thinking and ultimately reflect the variety of services it provides. It is more that just a library. It was also a workspace for highly dedicated staff, who counselled students on career choices, and it was to become the hub for the newly Sunderland Futures scheme. The project was hugely challenging, mainly because of the tight budget and timescales.

The solution transformed the way the service presented itself to its students. By simply swapping the space which was occupied by staff workspace with the library collection, we could increase visibility of the careers service and provide more areas for independent working for students.

The result incorporates the Sunderland Futures brand, uses shelving to define workspaces and creates a bright, inviting space perfectly reflecting the services philosophy of ‘development, opportunities, recognition’.
