Our Role

Workplace consultant, interior architect and designer, principal designer, contract administrator

The Rowan Building is located on the Darlington Memorial Hospital site, and houses Adult Mental Health, Liaison Services and Children and Adolescent Mental Health community teams for Tees Esk and Wear Valley NHS Trust.  A workplace survey and 'snapshot' space utilisation study were undertaken to help the teams gain insight into the way that space was being used. There was severe underutilisation on the children spaces and over-utilisation of space in the adult areas.

Team workshops were facilitated and we guided them to solutions that changed the way that the teams worked, and also created more space for shared used between the two community teams. We also created two separate reception areas to separate the two client types and installed a new lift to improve accessibility. We went on to deliver the design packages for tender and construction, as Lead Consultant. It was a privilege to be able to see this project through from concept to completion.

The project was very well received by both staff, parents and children, and the adult services team were delighted with more space to deliver their services.
